When you are looking to buy something online, what do you search for?
- The Best Price?
- The Best Service?
- The Best Company?
- Free Shipping?
What if you find an iPod at BestBuy.com for $249 and one at Amazon.com for $229...... where would you buy it? If you are like most people, you would buy it at Amazon.com because both are reputable companies who will ship your order quickly and give you free shipping! The only differentiating factor is price.
When you are looking to purchase a service online, what do you look for?
- A Reputable Company?
- Someone Who Will Give You Personal Attention?
- Guarantees Of Your Satisfaction?
The key to achieving success beyond your wildest dreams is by learning to differentiate yourself from the rest of the pack. Find a way to stand out in a crowd and be your own person! Then and only then will you find that people are drawn to you by the hundreds or even thousands.
I have always sought to provide value for people who visited my sites.
When I was selling credit cards back in 2000-2001, I would help people find the credit cards that were right for them instead of trying to sell them the one that paid the highest commission. People ordered credit cards through my site because they found it to be a very useful service. Today the same system is being used by the company who bought the domain from me several years ago.
When I sold Dish Network Satellite Systems, I developed a "first of it's kind" system that allowed prospects to configure their order and when they pressed "submit" it would deliver the best package for them. The CEO of Dish Network sent me an email one evening after he had gone through my system and 6 months later they had copied it. Right when I received the email, I knew it was the end of my primary source of differentiation.
My other source of differentiation was better customer service. I provided a toll free number and would personally take calls answering all the questions someone had about choosing the right package, making sure they had a clear view of the sky and how to hook up the extra TV in the kids playroom. The reason they bought from me is because they couldn't get that level of service from a customer service rep at Dish Network.
My first major success in networking came as a result of the same type of system called SuccessCourse. It was an automated recruiting system that worked unlike anything before it or since. We had nearly 6000 people sign up through our automated presentation and would've had thousands more if the company hadn't lost it's main figure head.
Can you make life easier for someone?
Can you organize information so people can navigate it easier?
Can you teach them something they don't know?
Will you help them succeed?
Will you share a secret with them?
Are you a natural leader with a strong background?
Any of these things can create your points of differentiation, it's up to you to decide what value you can contribute. The level of value that you add to the equation is what will flow to your bottom line!
If you are the same as everyone else, you get paid like everyone else........ and that's not good!
